Malvern College – the Big Physics Quiz

Our pupils competed in the Big Physics Quiz at the University of Birmingham. They performed very well and made a strong start with two of the teams scoring 100% in the first round. As the rounds became harder though, the Malvern team found it more difficult to keep their 100% record but they showed great team spirit and intellectual fortitude on questions covering a very broad range of Physics topics.
The highlight was Nick Wilson winning a ‘spot prize,’ and thus a box of chocolates, for knowing that the odds of being struck by lightning twice are about 1 in 9 million. He was the first to point out that of course this is an average figure and doesn’t count for people strapped to the top of the Empire State Building!
