LVS Ascot Students Take Fame In Their Stride To Thrill Over 1,000 Audience Members

A huge cast of almost 70 students thrilled sell-out audiences at LVS Ascot at the end of January as they took over 1,000 theatregoers back to the 1980s by performing Fame – The Musical.

Four captivated sell-out audiences enjoyed the production in the professional theatre at the leading independent, all-ability school, giving pupils as young as 11 the opportunity to act alongside sixth formers to develop their drama and performing skills.  This was the culmination of months of rehearsals and commitment from students and staff alike, with the song in Act One “Hard Work” particularly apt.

Head of Drama at LVS Ascot Georgina Windsor said: “We wanted to inspire and engage every member of the cast, and help them achieve their potential. Through the hard work ethic we created, they all did superbly and it has been a massive team effort. The benefits of different ages performing together work both ways, as the younger cast members look up to the older ones and aspire to be like them, but the older students are also inspired by the energy and enthusiasm of the younger actors too”.

A number of students taking starring roles had acted on the stage before in LVS Ascot Junior School productions, showing the benefits of a through-school education where drama plays an important role and allows children from 4 to 18 to experience and excel at acting. Such was the talent unearthed at auditions by Year 7 pupils who wanted to be part of the show, a special prologue was written just for them, allowing their talents to shine before being joined by the senior cast members.

The young cast was also able to enjoy accompaniment by a live orchestra consisting of the LVS Ascot music department and a number of students.

Proud parents were thrilled with the show and its effect on their children with Jeremy Fowler, father of Ben Fowler who played Tyrone, saying: “What a production and what a school, a school that epitomises focus, ability and life skills and allows individuals to progress across all ages”.
