LVS Ascot – Junior Pupils’ Achievements Rewarded At Celebration Day
16 Sep 2016
Junior school pupils at LVS Ascot finished the academic year on a high at its prestigious Celebration Day. The annual event provides all children from Reception to Year 6 with the opportunity to be recognised and rewarded for excelling throughout the year, with awards given out for progress and achievement across all year groups.
Senior Master of Junior School Mr Dennis began the ceremony by saying: “Prizes awarded at Celebration Day are the pinnacle of our school awards and the highest accolade we offer at the Junior School”.
With over 180 juniors at independent all-ability LVS Ascot, and the incentive of being able to remain at the all-through school for their senior and sixth-form education too, pupils have helped each other excel throughout the year. They competed for a number of prizes given out by members of the Platform Party including Chair of the Education Committee Anita Adams.
Oliver Ward, 7, was one of the award winners, and was announced as Assistant Head of Lions House at the ceremony despite only joining LVS Ascot in September. His father Matt said: “We brought Oliver to LVS Ascot for the smaller class sizes and high level of academic support, and because it is a well-rounded school which flourishes in all areas. This year he has grown in confidence and turned into a proper little man, because the teachers know him, provide individual attention and have opened up lots of opportunities for him to get involved with which he has relished”.
The two biggest awards were Head Boy and Head Girl, which went to Angelina Yu and Rodrigo Oxley respectively. Outgoing Head Girl Charlotte Reid is moving up to LVS Ascot’s senior school in September, and her mother Caroline was full of praise for her development at the school: “LVS Ascot has really brought out Charlotte’s confidence and belief as she has been given the opportunity to try so many things and excel. She is really looking forward to senior school here with the chance to get involved with the excellent art and drama provision”.
After the formal ceremony, pupils, families and teachers enjoyed a relaxed picnic lunch in the school’s 25-acre grounds with all classes putting on a musical and theatrical show for their families including singing, dancing and magic tricks to end the year on a high and send everyone home with a smile on their faces.
Principal Christine Cunniffe said: “Our vision is not only a first class education with a broad and balanced curriculum, but also a vibrant, diverse co-curricular programme to allow pupils to discover and grow their talents. We are able to set our sights high thanks to the drive and commitment of staff and the enthusiasm of our pupils who are inspired and taught that there are no boundaries to what they can achieve”.
