LVS Ascot – Former British Diplomat Offers Sixth Formers Leadership Advice

Former British Diplomat Charles Crawford visited LVS Ascot last month to inspire sixth formers to become leaders and provide valuable tips on how to take charge of situations.

Charles was invited to the leading independent all-ability school to speak to students as part of its policy to complement academic development by using positive role models to introduce additional life skills. Charles spoke in an interactive session on how the students could make a difference and a real contribution in life, the politics of leadership and what would distinguish them as leaders from everyone else.

With many years of diplomatic experience negotiating at a high level and in strict confidence, Charles was well qualified to teach on leadership. From his role as British Ambassador for the Foreign Office, he gained diplomatic experience in challenging circumstances such as South Africa as apartheid ended, post-communist Russia, post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia/Montenegro/Kosovo after the fall of Milosevic.

Charles said: “It’s always a pleasure to visit LVS Ascot. The school encourages students to excel and achieve: that shows in how keen they are and the questions they ask. My talk today on leadership has explained all sorts of professional tips and tricks for them to use, not just at LVS Ascot but also beyond that”.

The session formed part of a wider programme of additional life skills sessions available to LVS Ascot sixth formers, along with unique Institute of Leadership and Management awards and a Business Management course covering subjects such as conflict management and strategic decision making.
