Lots of funds raised at the Christ College Brecon Dinner and Auction
12 Jun 2019
Parents, staff and Old Breconians gathered at The Castle of Brecon for a Dinner and Promise Auction kindly organised by the Society of Friends of Christ College.
Guests were entertained by pupils in the school’s senior wind sinfonia who played old favourites from famous film scores before the Auction got underway.
Old Breconian Andrew Morgan (1970-1977), of Morgan & Davies in Lampeter, auctioned off items and experiences which had been donated by parents and alumni such as tickets to the Wales v England rugby match at the Principality Stadium this weekend, a meal for two at The Hardwick in Abergavenny, a 4×4 Landrover driving experience, a tour of the BBC Newsroom in London and a day trip to Skomer Island. There was also an online auction during January and February which the whole community was able to take part in.
Local businesses including Paddy Sweeney, BJ Jenkins, Williams Coaches, Mitchell Meredith, Brecon Tap, The Bank, Ship Shape, Casa, Flowers by Becca Jane, Llanfaes Dairy, The Hours, Bulwark House and The Bear in Crickhowell supported the event through sponsorship or donating items for the raffle.
The online and grand auctions raised a total of £16,000 for the school, which will be spent on ensuring the library is an inspiring 21st century learning space with digital resources and segmented study areas.
Gareth Pearson, Head of Christ College said: ‘We are so grateful to the Society of Friends of Christ College for arranging this event for the school. I know it involved a tremendous amount of preparation and hard work to put together. I think it is safe to say that the evening was enjoyed by all with a fantastic amount of funds raised thanks to the generous support of parents, staff, Old Breconians and the wider Chris College Brecon Community.’
