Lord Wandsworth College – Pupils take on Sleep Out Challenge

03 Aug 2018

On Saturday 9th June, a group of our 1st and 2nd Form pupils slept in a ‘cardboard city’ in the school grounds to generate awareness of homelessness and raise funds for the Aldershot charity, Step by Step.

Their evening included burger and snack making, followed by a bbq with stories round the camp fire but at 11pm it was ‘lights out’ to sleep on the cold, damp field. Whilst they had a few home-comforts, the event was supporting a serious issue, and the idea was to give up their beds for the night, sleeping on a hard floor, to raise money for those who don’t have the luxury of a bed. 1 in 100 young people in the UK are expected to experience homelessness and this shocking figure is something Step by Step are working hard to help change.

So far LWC pupils have raised £1156 which is double the amount last year’s event raised. Adam Williams said, “we are really proud of all those who took part to support this great cause. LWC pupils wanted to complete this challenge for the second year running and raise much needed funds for Step by Step who help around 2000 young people every year.”
