Lord Wandsworth College – NEW SENIOR DEPUTY HEAD ANNOUNCED

Alex Battison has been announced as the new Senior Deputy Head at LWC from Jan 2018.

Alex is currently the Assistant Head at Wells Cathedral School (since 2014) where he sits on the SLT and has taken the lead on a range of whole-school initiatives including staff development, pupil voice, mental health training and parental engagement. He has also developed strong links with business, universities and broader organisations, notably within the field of character education.  Prior to this role, he was Director of Learning and Innovation at Hurstpierpoint as well as Head of Sports Science and has over 10 years of experience in boarding houses.

Educated at Hurstpierpoint, Alex studied Sport and Physical Education at the University of Wales, before undertaking his Masters in Teaching and Learning at Oxford University.   He is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Leadership, Learning and Policy at Bristol University.

Alex is passionate about education and has worked with the Department for Education, the National College for Teaching and Leadership in schools and was creator of the South West Federation – a group of private and maintained schools collaborating on leading the future of education in the South of England.

In his spare time, Alex is an excellent sportsman and coach (rugby, hockey, cricket, football) as well as a chorister.  He and his wife, Pippa, also enjoy the great outdoors and have trekked to Everest base camp as well as climbing other mountains in the region.
