King’s Worcester Named in Top 100 Cricket Guide

With a long-standing cricket tradition spanning the school’s history and our commitment to coaching young cricketers, we are delighted to share the news that we have been named by the prestigious Cricketer Schools Guide 2021 as one of the UK’s Top 100 cricketing schools. 

The Cricketer Schools Guide 2021 lists what it judges to be the 100 UK senior schools that demonstrate “a compelling commitment to cricket in the curriculum, facilities, fixture programmes and coaching.” The 148-page guide has been compiled following what the editors call an ‘exhaustive process’ with a record number of submissions.

King’s Worcester, who have 32 pupils taking part in the Worcester County Cricket Club (WCCC) Winter Training Programme and WCCC Academy, makes the list for the very first time. A full page write up in the guide reflects King’s Worcester’s prestigious offering including facilities, cricket provision, location and the school’s Senior Cricket Academy.

Simon Greenall, Director of Cricket added, “We are delighted to have been included in The Cricketer Schools Guide this year. It’s great to be featured as part of the prestigious guide. Despite this last year not being the best year for Cricket, it was great to be able to play matches in September and we are all excited about the prospect of returning to a full set of fixtures this Summer.”

The King’s Worcester timetabled cricket provision and our Senior School Academy programme has really gone to new levels over the last two years, with stronger focus on technical, tactical and athlete development. In a normal year pupils are provided with the opportunity to train as early as October and can continue right up until the end of the Summer term. Alongside this, our connection with Worcester County Cricket Club means that pupils have the unique opportunity to train with aspiring professional WCCC cricketers.

The Guide, which judged the school against an extensive set of criteria, also credited the breadth of our fast-growing girls cricket provision and their success in the previous years Lady Taverners tournaments. We have two girls teams in years 7 to 10 who place weekly softball and hardball matches. Further to this, it credits the prospects of pupils, some of whom play for the local county both boys and girls elite teams.

The quality of the Senior School does not stand alone as both the prep schools, King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford, are actively inspiring pupil cricketing talents. Alongside timetabled summer lessons, pupils also have access to the schools highly popular Saturday Junior School Cricket Academy, run by ex-professional coaches.
