Learning a lot with Diploma of Intensive English – Kings Bournemouth
06 Mar 2019
Luis Vidal Larios, from Mexico, studied the Diploma of Intensive English course for 6 months at Kings Bournemouth. We asked him what he thinks about Bournemouth, and the activities he has been taking part in.
Why are you improving your English?
Learning English is very important to me as it’s a popular language. In Mexico I study and I work for my father’s company, which I hope to expand in the future. All the tourists, when they come to Mexico, speak English and I want to be able to talk to them.
What made you decide to come to come to Kings and choose the course you are doing?
Kings was recommended to me by others back home and it has a lot of pre-arrival information. I thought the UK and Bournemouth wouldn’t have many Spanish speakers so I would have the best opportunity to learn English.
How is the course going?
Really well! The teachers are very good and everything is very helpful. I now study exam skills with a really good teacher who is helping me improve my English.
Where are you staying?
I am staying in the Kings Beach residence and I love it. The people who work there are so nice and are always willing to go out their way and help me. I really feel like I am cared for there.
Have you taken part in any of the extracurricular activities at Kings?
Yes. I take part in lots of the activities. Extracurricular activities are a great way to meet new people from different classes and buildings, that you normally would not spend time with.
I like to go and play sports, especially soccer with other people. I also really like the weekly guided self-study group because it helps me with my writing, speaking and listening. My favourite activity is the cooking activities as I can meet lots of people from different countries and we try food from each other’s cultures.
I don’t go on many of the excursions because I prefer to book things myself. I am travelling to Budapest, Prague and Vienna soon with a group of Mexican students I met at Kings.
Have you made many friends?
Yes, I have made a lot of new friends and I am very close to some of my classmates.
What do you think of the school’s location?
I really like Bournemouth. It is filled with lots of very nice and helpful people. I also like visiting the nearby Jurassic Coast and Southampton is a fun place to visit.
Have you experienced other English language schools?
I studied for a month in another school in San Francisco, in the USA. My siblings also studied there but it wasn’t as good as Kings. The problem with studying in America is that there are so many Spanish speakers and most of the students are Spanish speakers. Kings is much better for learning English as there is a bigger variety of nationalities in the class.
What would you say to anyone considering coming to Kings to study?
It’s a great opportunity and I would recommend coming here. The teachers are very good and the staff are very helpful. You will learn a lot studying at Kings Bournemouth.
