RACE TO THE BEACH

A team of 23 pupils and 12 staff took part in Race to the Beach. The conditions were incredibly tough, in 30 degree heat, but everyone performed brilliantly. The adventure made use of the brand new Shipwright’s Way, a National Trail which almost links LWC with the beach at Hayling Island. Students and staff ran the 52-mile trail as a relay team.

A team of cyclists, led by the Bursar, also set a challenge to cycle from Hayling Island to the College and back before the runners arrived – a gruelling 110-mile slog – and a narrow victory!

Students and staff raised a fantastic amount for several charities including robbiesrally, SSAFA  and CRY.

STUDENT-LED DRAMA PRODUCTION

A brilliant example of pupil initiative, Amy P, Lower 6th, wrote, cast and directed her first play entitled ‘Books, DVD and a Dance.’  The production was a resounding success and all 3rd and 4th Form pupils involved worked incredibly hard and had an amazing experience.

Amy raised funds towards the cost of her conservation research Operation Wallacea Trip to Indonesia this summer.

INTERNATIONAL SPACE CHALLENGE

Two 4th Form teams combined their Science and Foreign Language skills to take part in the International Space Challenge 2018. This event highlights the importance of languages in a science-based career, where there is so much international collaboration. Pupils built a model of a space hotel, gave a presentation on the design and engineering, wrote a tweet and presented their marketing plan in French/Spanish!

3rd FORM BATTLEFIELD TRIP TO YPRES

3rd Form Historians visited the WW1 Battlefields of France and Belgium. The trip began in Ypres, moving to the Somme where they walked in the footsteps of those that went over the top on 1st July 1916. Some pupils were able to visit memorials of their own relatives who had fallen in the war.
