Jack and Jill School – Languages Week
19 May 2015
Languages Week started with an interactive session involving parents and Year 2 girls. We were delighted to welcome so many parents to the classrooms and the girls were most interested to learn more about the different languages throughout the morning.
They were amazed to discover that Tamil has 247 characters and enjoyed writing their names in the beautiful Tamil script. We were keen to discover which languages had the same letters as the English alphabet and we found out that German, Shona from Zimbabwe and Italian had mostly similar letters. The Korean characters were quite simple to write and we learnt that they use 14 consonants and 10 vowels.
Thank you to all the parents who came in to school to share their home language with us- we really enjoyed it.
