ST SWITHUN’S SCHOOL CELEBRATES IMPRESSIVE GCSE RESULTS
St Swithun’s School is thrilled to announce the excellent achievements of its students in the 2023 GCSE examinations. With a long-standing commitment to intellectual curiosity and personal development, the school community is delighted to celebrate the accomplishments of its students in this year’s results. 32% of results were at grade 9, the highest ever in a non-Covid year, while 62% were grades 9/8/A*, exceeding results in 2019. 79% of results were grades 7/A and above, with students taking on average just under 10 (9.9) GCSE qualifications each.
Amongst the school’s top achievers were twelve students who achieved all 9/8/A* grades while three students gained 11 grades 9/8/A* and two students received 12 9/8/A* grades. 63% of students attained six or more 9/8/A*s and over a third received nine or more 9/8/A*s.
All students should be incredibly proud of their results, especially in light of the challenges imposed by Covid in recent years.
Headmistress Jane Gandee expressed her pride in the students’ accomplishments and remarked: “The dedication and hard work of our students, combined with the unwavering support from our staff, have culminated in these outstanding results. These achievements reflect the values and ethos of St Swithun’s School, where a passion for learning and personal growth are nurtured in each and every student.
“It’s a particular pleasure to see so many of our students successfully combining activities such as sport, music, drama and the Duke of Edinburgh Award with their studies. We know that skills developed beyond the classroom will be increasingly important as this generation reaches the work place.”
Outstanding performer, Leqi S from Chandler’s Ford, has demonstrated a remarkable academic journey throughout her time at St Swithun’s School. Achieving ten 9’s and one 8, she exemplifies the values of dedication and passion for learning that the school fosters. Leqi has not only excelled in the classroom but has also been actively involved in music at St Swithun’s and won this year’s House Music Finals. Her accomplishments reflect her perseverance and the dedicated guidance of our committed teachers. Leqi will be continuing her studies at St Swithun’s to study biology, chemistry, maths, music, and physics.
Similarly, another outstanding musician, Eva A from Romsey, has achieved a brilliant set of results. She has achieved nine 9’s and one 8 in her GCSE’s and displayed exceptional determination, organisational skills, and commitment to academic excellence. Eva will be continuing her studies at St Swithun’s to study A Levels in biology, chemistry, Spanish and maths.
The entire St Swithun’s School community is filled with pride as we celebrate the accomplishments of all our students in this year’s GCSE results. Our students’ achievements are a testament to the collective effort of our teachers, staff, parents and guardians who have worked tirelessly to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
