It was an emotional morning at Howell’s as students arrived to collect their A level results. This year’s cohort were the year group who had their GCSE exams cancelled in March 2020—just a few weeks before they sat the first papers, due to the Covid-19 pandemic—and until the spring they did not know whether their A level examinations would even take place.
When the envelopes were opened, 33% of all results were A*, 59% of all results were A* – A grades, and 80% of all grades were A* – B. This is a fantastic achievement for the students, particularly considering the significant disruption to their education over the last two years.
Principal Sally Davis said: “I am so proud of these students. During their two years in the Co-Ed College these students have risen to the challenges presented to them and impressed everyone at Howell’s with their determination and dedication. They deserve the excellent grades that they have received, and I look forward to Prizegiving, when we will be able to congratulate them with their families before they embark upon their exciting new journeys.”
