Homefield Pupil Excels in Townsend-Warner History Prize

14 Apr 2016

The results of the Townsend-Warner History Prize were received over the Easter break and we are delighted to announce that Harry (Year 7) finished in the top 50 of over 1,000 entrants this year, amassing a very impressive score of 136 across the two papers.

The Townsend-Warner History Prize has been running for 130 years and is one of the oldest institutions in the preparatory school world. It has proved enduringly popular in encouraging the study of history amongst children, provoking interest and delight in historical reading, facts and analysis.

Harry had led the way for Homefield in Paper one, finishing a very impressive 19th out of over 1,000 entrants this year. However, whereas Paper one consisted of 100 questions demanding one-word or one-sentence answers, Paper two consisted of a two hour essay-style paper, demanding even more of the contestants. Harry was joined in taking Paper two by four other Homefield competitors, namely Ved, Felix, Angus and Harry.

We were absolutely delighted with all the boys’ results. Ved scored 134, agonisingly missing out on a top 50 place by a single point. Meanwhile, Felix scored 125 to join Ved in the top 100, Angus scored an impressive 123, missing out on the top 100 by a single point and Harry scored a more than satisfactory 112.

Well done to everyone who took part. We are very much looking forward to seeing our boys take on the challenge again next year!
