Highclare Sixth Form welcome MP to their new common room

11 Feb 2015

Highclare Sixth Formers are celebrating the opening of their newly refurbished common room when Jack Dromey, MP for Erdington came along to their Erdington school to perform an official opening. Mr Dromey was able to relax with students and sample the advantages of sixth form life at Highclare where the addition of a wide screen TV, up to the minute kitchen facilities and permanent wifi is great news for all.
“The common room has undergone a complete transformation and has been turned into a space that exceeds university accommodation!” said Head Prefect, Sophie-Jayne Bridgens, who spent some time explaining to Mr Dromey the highlights of sixth form life at Highclare.
The common room now also has relaxing corner sofas allowing students to relax and socialise. The dedicated wifi allows students to make use of their iPads which are provided to each student on entry to the Sixth Form to aid independent study.
Mr Dromey told students a little about his life at Westminster and the accommodation there for MPs, comparing the architecture of the buildings there to some of our famous land marks in Birmingham. He also chatted to students about their ambitions for the future, possible careers in industry and went on to engage them in conversations about the type of country they felt would be the ‘Britain’ they would want to live in. Ahead of the forthcoming general election he was keen to gauge the feelings of possible new voters and Highclare students were keen to help !
