A team of Christ College pupils, supported by Physics teacher Mr Clive Thomas, competed against many big corporate names to come a superb 7th in the 2012 Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme’s (Wales) Adventure Race which took place in the Brecon Beacons over the weekend of the 22nd/23rd September.
Team members included Ben Wigmore, Sian Lewis, Will Thomas, Jake Brockwell, David Silk, Luke Henderson and Mr. Clive Thomas. The race took place over two days and covered an overall distance of 41km, which involved 12 stages of canoeing, mountain biking, running and hiking.
Mr Thomas said: “The team came a very creditable 7th in the competition. It is a very young team – apart from me – of 16 year olds. The other teams were mostly from businesses and large companies but our team were competitive and showed a maturity beyond their years.”
He added: “The team should be very proud of their efforts, particularly regarding their team spirit and their never-give-up attitude. This was particularly true on Sunday in some pretty miserable weather conditions!”
