GB hockey masterclass at St Swithun’s Junior School

13 Nov 2015

St Swithun’s Junior School were visited by current GB hockey player Emily Maguire.

The school’s Year 6 Sports Ambassador met her and gave her a tour of the school and facilities whilst enjoying a chat and asking advice about Emily’s experience of balancing homework and sport at an early age. The juniors then enjoyed a hockey masterclass with Emily.

Emily spoke with St Swithun’s Junior School sports director Roger Marshall about her training and what GB hockey call the VVB; Vision, Values and Behaviour. This struck a chord with Roger as the ethos at St Swithun’s Junior School is that practice and play is just as important as winning matches.

St Swithun’s Junior School now look forward to their next visitor as part of their ‘Countdown to Rio 2016’, when they will meet GB gymnast Kelly Simms after half term.
