Future Engineers Inspirational Lunch – St Edmund’s College
13 May 2020
Mr John Coleman from the Smallpeice Trust visited the College to launch the Arkwright Scholarship for Syntax and Poetry. A group of 30
students attended our Future Engineers lunch and heard from Mr Coleman how Engineering can be used to answer a diverse range of problems from how to crush plastic bottles in a recycling plant to designing medical devices for complex surgeries.
One of our current Arkwright Scholars, Francis, R1, outlined to the students a number of the projects he undertook as part of his application. The students were in awe of the technical knowledge Francis has acquired through his study. He has re-designed and re-engineered his own 3D Printer, using a 3D Printer.
Mr Coleman left the students with the conundrum of if Francis is building new parts for his 3D Printer using a 3D Printer, what was the technology required to build the original 3D Printer?
What an inspiring way to spend a lunchtime!
