Farlington School – WASTE WEEK

30 Apr 2014

Farlington is currently participating in the environmental initiative, Waste Week 2014. This year’s focus centres on the issues around plastics recycling and the importance of reducing plastic in landfill waste.

The girls are collecting as many used plastic writing implements as they can. The year group which has the most at the end of the week will win a prize.

This fits into the School’s other environmental activities which have resulted in our achieving the Eco-Schools Silver Award. Farlington has recently relaunched its textiles recycling scheme through Bags of Support, a local company which collects re-useable clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, bedding and soft toys from the School’s recycling collection container.

Chris Snewin, Physics teacher and Staff Eco-Representative, said, “Waste Week is a great way of raising the awareness of these issues to the girls. Each Form has an Eco-Rep who is involved in our usual recycling projects, but this means we can have a school-wide activity and involve all pupils and staff.”
