Farlington Prep School hosted a Sports Festival on Wednesday 15th May for local schools. Girls participated from Farlington’s Year 5 and other local schools including Park Mead Primary School in Cranleigh and Loxwood Primary School.
A total of 50 girls competed in an afternoon full of fun sports events including wellie throwing, rounders striking, hockey and Velcro golf as well as more traditional running races.
Lucia Mayhew and Lucy North from Farlington took first and second positions in the 600m race with Molly McKenna from Park Mead coming a close third. The afternoon finished with all participants competing in a 4x50m relay for their school.
After the competition, the girls were given afternoon tea in New Courtyard Hall where Ms Louise Higson, Farlington’s Headmistress, presented certificates to the winners and runners-up of the 600m race from each school and medals to the overall winning team, Park Mead.
Farlington’s Year 10 girls, who have followed the Level 1 Sports Leader Award in core PE lessons, ran the festival. “This course gives the opportunity to develop many leadership skills which will be of use to them both in a sporting environment and in life in general. The course is not concerned with the level of each individual’s sporting ability but instead helps develop many different leadership skills, such as being able to organise others and to communicate with groups and individuals in a sports setting,” said Sara Whittaker, Director of PE and Games.
The afternoon was a great success and enjoyed by the organisers and participants alike.
