Farlington – FUNDRAISING FOR ST CATHERINE’S HOSPICE

30 Apr 2014

Since 6th February six girls in Year 10 –  Alice Tarplee, Yasmine Ryan, Orla Ridpath, Alexandra Harrison-Smith, Sofia Corsi and Isobel Tokatly – have been participating in the St Catherine’s Hospice Enterprise Challenge to raise £1000 for the hospice by 3rd April.

Their first initiative, a break-time milkshake sale, raised £80. This was followed by a Pyjama Day and for a donation of £2 everyone could wear pyjamas or onesies to school. The girls went onto the drive with buckets and encouraged parents to donate spare change, which took them to a total of £600. The following day the Prep School girls came in mufti and the Year 10 team held pancake races and pancake-tossing competitions to bring their total to £950.

Then, Year 10 girls held a cake sale and the teachers and the Enterprise Team voted for the best cakes. Serena Toovey won and received a prize, generously donated by The Body Shop. The final fundraiser saw some very sporting teachers being put in stocks and being soaked by wet sponges. These last two events took them over their £1000 target.

The girls presented a cheque to Victoria Lawrence from St Catherine’s Hospice on Thursday 3rd April. The total amount raised will be announced at the challenge final in May.

This has been an enriching and informative experience for them and they would like to thank everyone who supported them, especially Mr Cronin, their able mentor, who guided them through the project.
