18 Aug 2021

Haileybury Sixth Form pupils rank amongst 1% in the world for their exceptional IB scores

The results are in, and pupils in our Class of 2021 who have taken the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) have secured places at some of the top universities in the world, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Upper Sixth pupils Guido, Sitara and Justus have been awarded an exceptional 45 points, placing them amongst the 1% in the world. Jack, Emilie and Mahaut obtained an incredible 44 points, with Jack and Emilie respectively moving on to study at Cambridge and Oxford.

Sola, Marco, Federico, Magnolia and Willem scored a fantastic 43 points, which is the equivalent of four A* grades and one A grade at A Level.

When asked how it felt to be a part of the 1% in the world to receive a full score, Sitara said: “Given the unpredictable nature of this year, I wasn’t sure what to expect, so I am super happy to have received a full score – it honestly doesn’t feel real! I’m on my way to San Francisco to study psychology and integrated humanities at The University of California, Berkeley; I am extremely excited for this next chapter.”

Justus said: “I am very, very happy with my result and it feels amazing to be able to leave Haileybury with such a great achievement. I am planning on completing a three year Bachelor program in International Business Administration in Germany at the Otto Beisheim School of Management.

Over 40% of our pupils achieved 40 points or higher (the equivalent of four A* grades or better at A level) and a third of pupils were also awarded bilingual diplomas, which is a brilliant demonstration of their global attitudes. The results are based on the hard work of our pupils, particularly in their coursework.

When asked if he had any advice for pupils studying IB in the future, Guido said: “Succeeding in the IB is no easy feat. However, a consistent work rate throughout the two years enables you to put yourself into the best possible position to achieve a good result in the diploma. Be a curious and savvy learner; take every opportunity to improve yourselves as students and people.”

Scoring an average of 39 points, Haileybury becomes one of the highest achieving schools in the UK. This would not have been possible without the exceptional work of our pupils; they have worked incredibly hard and should be extremely proud of their results, the School is certainly proud of them and their efforts as they have continued to show resilience in an unexpected and challenging year.

The Master, Martin Collier said: “These are an outstanding set of IBDP results. Given the circumstances of the last 16 months, all of the pupils deserve credit for their efforts. To complete Individual Assignments to such a high standard in a period which included two lockdowns, is quite extraordinary. The statistics confirm that Haileybury is one of the very best IBDP schools in the UK. Above all else, we are delighted that the hard work and dedication of our IBDP pupils has paid off. We are very proud of them and grateful to their teachers who have served them so very well”

We would like to congratulate all our IB pupils on their results and we wish everyone the best of luck in their next venture.
