Taunton School celebrates exceptional scores on results day
Students at Taunton School are celebrating an amazing set of A Level results as over a third were graded A*-A. 61% of all results across more than 30 different subjects received grades A*-B or equivalent, with 100% of students studying Music and Theatre Studies receiving an A* or A.
Many students opted to complete an Extended Project Qualification alongside their studies and more than 50% of them were awarded an A*.
Taunton School’s Headteacher James Johnson said: “Pupils and staff have anxiously awaited these results knowing that there would be a return to 2019, pre-pandemic, grade distributions.
It should not be forgotten that this group of students have taken public exams for the first time in their school careers this year. They should be extremely proud of what they have achieved. There are bright futures ahead for them and I wish them every success for the next stage in their journey.”
Taunton School’s highest achievers were:
- Shad Akhtar – 4 A* and A* in EPQ
- Elizabeth Dutton – 2 A and 1 A* and A* in EPQ
- Pavel Irzhak – 2 A* and 2 A
- George Baker – 2 A and 1 A* and B in EPQ
- Mark Eavis – 2 A and 1 A*
- Helen Hounslow – 2 A and 1 A*
“I’ll be eternally grateful for the support I’ve had at this school and for allowing me to achieve my dreams,” said Lizzie who has secured her place to study English Literature at Durham University.
In BTEC, over 60% of grades were either Distinction* or Distinction (equivalent to A* or A). The top achievers were Oliver Heard, Alfie MacDonald and Isla Winslow who all achieved D*D*D*.
Today rounds off a successful summer for Taunton School Year 13. Back in July our International Baccalaureate students celebrated an average of 31.9 points: this exceeded the global average score and secured the students places at many universities across the world, including the University of Oxford.
