ENHANCED DESIGN AT BISHOP’S STORTFORD COLLEGE
24 Oct 2013
As well as celebrating some superb exam results, the Bishop’s Stortford College Design & Technology department are enjoying the result of a major refurbishment programme this term after a summer break of intense activity to upgrade and improve accommodation and facilities.
The work was timed to coincide with the start of increased Design & Technology provision for the College’s Prep School pupils from Form 1 (year 5) to Upper Third (year 8). This provision for pupils aged from nine to thirteen, of an hour a week for the entire academic year, is unique in our region. To resource this increase, Mr Jess Osborne has been appointed as the dedicated Prep School Design & Technology teacher.
“This academic year is also important for D&T at Bishop’s Stortford College since the department will be celebrating 80 years of Design & Technology education in 2014 – the original woodwork shop started life in 1934., said John Trant, Head of Design & Technology. “A number of events are planned to celebrate this milestone and with our enhanced provision and facilities, we are looking forward to further exciting developments as the year progresses.”
The summer also saw John Trant being elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in recognition of his work in design education, research and school governance.
