Culford Tennis Team Claim AEGON South East Trophy
10 Dec 2013
A team of four pupils from Culford Senior School have won the AEGON Year 10 and Under South East Regional Tennis Championships. The competition took place at Gosling Sports Park in Welwyn GC on Friday 15 November.
The Culford team, comprising Maria Andrews (15), Kira Reuter (13), Lizzie Pam (15) and Hannah Vickers (15), were pitted against a strong team from Putney High School in the semi-final and came away with a resounding 6-0 victory. The girls then faced Sevenoaks School in the final, and once again won emphatically with a 5-1 final score.
Over 550 teams nationwide entered the competition and this win puts the Culford team into the final four in the UK. This is the first time a Culford team has won the regional event which now qualifies the girls to compete in the national finals in Bolton at the end of November.
Culford’s Director of Tennis David Hall has nothing but praise for the team, commenting “The girls did extremely well under pressure against two strong opposing teams. Our training for the nationals is now about trying to maintain this momentum and hopefully the girls will enter the finals riding high on the confidence they have gained from this success.”
