Crazy cricket tradition at Stonyhurst
28 May 2014
Stonyhurst College’s 1st XI cricket team strode into Stonyhurst’s prep school this week and challenged the younger pupils to a game of cricket. The challenge was eagerly accepted and the game commenced, watched by the whole school.
The tradition of Stonyhurst’s oldest pupils playing the youngest is older than anyone can remember, going back over a century, and the challenge is always spoken in Latin.
To add to the fun, the sixth-formers wear fancy dress: pupils from years 3 to 6 played a range of colourful creatures including a gorilla, penguin, Smurfs and a giant banana!
The younger team won by one run, which is also part of the tradition!
