Chinese New Year Celebrations at Bromsgrove Preparatory School
27 Feb 2013
Pupils at Bromsgrove Preparatory School have celebrated Chinese New Year in an authentic fashion, thanks to organisation by enthusiastic pupils.
Page House, the new Preparatory School boarding facility, had their own Chinese New Year party thanks to thirteen-year-old Lily Zhang offering to prepare a meal for the entire House of over fifty pupils.
Houseparent Adele Williams said: “With several East Asian children in the House, it seemed only right that we celebrate Chinese New Year in style and, thanks to the incredible efforts of Year 8 pupil Lily, we definitely managed to do so.”
With the help of a team of choppers, stirrers, washer-uppers and supporters, Lily cooked up an array of Chinese noodle dishes, enough for every member of the House to try. Pupils and staff decorated the kitchen with Chinese lanterns and twelve-year-old pupil Luke Lau bought chopsticks to share with anyone who wanted to try and eat noodles in a more authentic manner. Red envelopes containing chocolate coins were given to every child and there were sweet treats for later in the evening.
Miss Williams added “Overall, it was a fantastic event and we are so proud of Lily’s efforts and the way in which so many other children supported the event by assisting with the preparation and then clearing up afterwards.”
Meanwhile in Senior School boys’ boarding house Elmshurst, pupils had their own Chinese New Year feast where ten tables full of food were consumed! Year 13 pupils Janson Fan and Philip Lam were the brains behind the evening, who took on the responsibility of organising food for 90 pupils and staff.
