Celebrating 100 Years of Rugby – Wellington School
09 Jun 2020
In a gloriously decorated hall, the audience of parents, pupils, staff and Old Wellingtonians enjoyed a sumptuous 4 course dinner of World Cup themed food. Guest speaker Rugby legend Jason Leonard, who is the most capped England player ever, entertained the audience with World Cup winning anecdotes and his thoughts on the current World Cup in Japan. There was then a Q & A session hosted by ex- Ospreys Head Coach and TV Rugby Analyst Sean Holley, which gave a fascinating insight into Jason’s illustrious career.
The charity auction then swung into gear, orchestrated by Exeter Chiefs Premiership player Chris Bentley. With some fantastic prizes donated to the School, Chris raised over £13,000 for local charities Living with Aphasia, Children’s Hospice South West and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
It was a fabulous evening which was attended by Wellington School rugby players from 17-80, and was a fitting celebration for such an auspicious sporting season.
In the afternoon, the School 1st XV played a gala match against Kings Bruton which ended in a spectacular 54-0 win to Wellington, so there was much to celebrate!
