30 Aug 2013
A talented young chef from Birmingham has been awarded an Outstanding Apprentice Award by University College Birmingham (UCB).
Bromsgrove School’s Apprentice Chef Jess Forward, who is the first person nationally to study for a Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality Management, was put forward for the award by her university tutor as recognition of her academic excellence and outstanding achievement. Alongside her full time role at the School, Jess undertakes weekly knowledge and management training sessions at University College Birmingham and hopes to gain the Level 4 qualification after 18 months. As part of the course her practical culinary and kitchen management skills are assessed in the workplace every two weeks.
Jess has been working at Bromsgrove School as an Apprentice Chef since February. The School’s Head Chef, Steven Giles, says: “Jess is a very likeable character, during her time here she has learned new skills and gained in confidence, I am so happy and proud for Jess in achieving this award, she deserves it”.
