Natalie wins three Golds for Team GB at Biathle & Triathle European Championships

Bromsgrove School pupil Natalie Hatfield travelled to Germany on 28th July to represent Great Britain at the Biathle & Triathle European Championships. Natalie qualified for team GB earlier in the year at Cheltenham (Biathle) & in Dorset (Triathle). Biathle is a continuous run/swim/run event, whilst Triathle is a continuous shoot (with a laser pistol)/swim run event, repeated 4 times. Biathle & Triathle come under the umbrella of PentathlonGB.

On Saturday 28th, Natalie competed in the Triathle. Due to the shooting, Natalie was faced with having to work extra hard to make her way from the back of the pack. She managed to do so and came in a respectable 6th place, helping the GB team to a Gold medal.

Sunday 29th was the Biathle day. In the individual event, Natalie was lying in second place going into the swim, with quite a distance to make up if she was to reach first place. Natalie had an amazing swim and managed to catch and overtake the girl in first place. She then led the second run all the way, extending her lead all the time.

Natalie is absolutely thrilled to have come first and has claimed the title Under 17 European Champion. Natalie is only 14 and at the bottom of her age group, with another 18 months in the age category. GB also managed to claim the Gold team medal, increasing Natalie’s medal tally to three Golds for the weekend.

The BIathle mixed relay In the afternoon involved Natalie completing a Biathle and then handing over to her partner for him to do the same. Natalie handed over in 1st place and her partner also ran a strong race, with the pair finishing in second place overall.
