Bromsgrove Prep – visit from author Joanne Grochowicz

08 Dec 2017

Geography was brought to life today for pupils at Bromsgrove Prep School when the author Joanna Grochowicz visited to discuss her new book: Into the White, Scott’s Antarctic Odyssey.

The book, which is aimed at 9-13 year olds, gives the story of the Terra Nova expedition in a fresh and engaging way, capturing the achievements of the expedition, juxtaposed with the resilience that was required to overcome the harsh climatic conditions.

Joanna’s presentation introduced some of the unfamiliar characters and highlighted their contributions to the adventure. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed dressing up in authentic costumes and acting out scenes from the book.

Reginald Skelton was a pupil at Bromsgrove between 1882 and 1887 and left aged 15 to join the Navy.  He met Scott in 1900 and became Chief Engineer for the Discovery Expedition 1901 – 1904.
