On 6th, 7th and 8th February, Bromsgrove Preparatory School staged its first production on the stage of the School’s brand new Cobham Theatre.

The Tales from The Thousand and One Nights is a selection of stories that range from the profound to the comic. The Year 7 and 8 actors were engaging, confident, witty and impressive. The opening and closing dance sequences were full of colour, vibrancy and created a visual feast for the eyes. The pupil technical team backstage were professional and hardworking, supporting the pupils in this ambitiousand thoroughly enjoyable piece of theatre.

Charlie Woollhead, Head of Drama said “It was a really joyous experience. We set out to fill this new space with life and stories, a task that we have achieved. The young performers delighted audiences each time they took to the stage, without exception. It is extremely heartening to see young people grasp the challenge of storytelling of this nature and come away successful”.

Bromsgrove’s new Performing Arts Centre was officially opened on 22 November 2017 by The Honourable Christopher Lyttelton, 12th Viscount Cobham and Professor Julian Lloyd Webber. The Performing Arts Centre includes the new Cobham Theatre and Routh Concert Hall both seating an audience of 300, a large drama studio and an entire suite of new music classrooms, recording studios and practice rooms. Routh Hall has exceptional acoustic qualities and a raised performance area large enough to hold a full orchestra. The theatre has flexible seating options to accommodate a variety of performance styles and a hydraulic thrust stage allowing for a wide range of drama and dance performances. The facilities will benefit Bromsgrove pupils from all performance disciplines and the wider community.
