Bromsgrove Prep pupil to represent UK in the 2018 World Karting Championship

Bromsgrove Preparatory pupil Freddie Slater has been selected as one of three drivers to represent the UK in the 2018 World Karting Championship in Le Mans during October. He will then travel to Las Vegas in November to race in the USA Super Nationals.

Freddie has been driving since he was 3 and his competitive racing started in the bambino category when he was 5. Having a very successful final year in the bambinos, Freddie won the British Open Championship – the most prestigious title in that age group.

Prior to each British Championship event, Freddie completes his practice at the same track. Locally, Freddie uses the Whilton Mill karting facility in Daventry where, after school, he gets extra practice to sharpen his skills. Freddie has also had a lot of success competing in America travelling all over Florida, Miami and Las Vegas and has managed to bring home a lot of silverware.

Freddie is the current leader of the National LGM series which means he is selected for the World Championships in Le Mans France. He also won the 2018 British Open Championship at the start of the year to also qualify for the big event.

To be selected for the international event is a great achievement for ten year old Freddie. At this age, he will be the youngest on the grid. Talking about the event, Freddie said “I’m really excited for the new challenge in a much faster kart, racing people from around the world”. The Le Mans circuit is very exciting for Freddie, since his favourite type of Motorsport is GT endurance racing.

Following the World Championships, Freddie and his younger brother Alfie who is in Year 4 of the Prep School will be heading to Las Vegas to take part in the USA super nationals. This will be Alfie’s first time competing abroad but with guidance from his older brother he is sure to learn fast.
