Bromsgrove Pre-Prep – WW11 memories

08 Dec 2017

Year 2 pupils at Bromsgrove Pre-Prep held two very moving and informative assemblies for their parents and guests this week about World War 2.

Many facts and events from this period of our history were recounted and the children performed songs and poems from the 1940s.  The audience was treated to photographs and video clips of the many exciting activities the pupils have taken part in, including the evacuation on the Severn Valley Railway, a ‘Dig For victory’ campaign which involved harvesting vegetables from the School garden to make a delicious wartime soup and a WW2 Day where the children joined the Home Guard and used a stirrup pump and hose.

The assembly finished with parents and children joining together for a one-minute silence, after which the Year 2 pupils sang a beautiful song called “We will remember”.

Following the assembly on Friday, peace was declared, and Year 2 enjoyed a VE Day street party to celebrate the end of hostilities.

In the afternoon, the pupils welcomed Old Bromsgrovian, Graham Jones who is author of children’s books about Time Travelling Toby, who travels back in time to significant historic events. This time Graham presented his story about The Battle of Britain, showed the children many artefacts and concluded with a book signing.
