Bishop’s Stortford College 1st XI victory over MCC
20 May 2013
MCC 204 for 7 in 46 overs, (5 wickets for Tom Foot).
BSC 205 for 8 in 50 overs, (Tom Baucher 42 not out, Oliver Radley 38, Tom Foot 38 not out).
Bishop’s Stortford College Senior School are celebrating after producing a truly memorable win against the MCC.
Bowling first against a strong MCC side, Tom Foot and Adam Dunkley kept things tight early on. They were ably supported by Tom Baucher whose first 5 overs conceded only 8 runs. After an excellent hundred from the MCC number 3 batsman, Tom Foot came back into the attack and bowled superbly to finish with figures of 14 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for 38 runs.
Having been set 205 to win, Taylor Weeks (30) got us off to a solid start despite wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end. However, the arrival of Ollie Radley at the crease changed the momentum of our innings – he scored a well compiled 38 with some powerful shots reaching the boundary. Despite his best efforts, when he was dismissed the Bishop’s Stortford College team were well behind the game at 122 for 6, which soon became 138 for 8.
At this stage, Tom Foot strode to the crease to join Tom Baucher and the two of them began to get us back in the game with some sensible and very mature batting. They both played brilliantly in a high pressure situation, and from nowhere won the match for the College by 2 wickets. Tom Foot ended on 38 not out and Tom Baucher 42 not out.
“All the boys were wonderful throughout the day and showed a huge amount of character, determination and fight to allow them to win,” said coach David Hughes. “After the match, the MCC captain paid tribute to the excellent team spirit shown by the 1st XI and presented Tom Foot with a MCC cap as man of the match. Tom Baucher also deserves a special mention for an excellent all-round performance, and the whole side can be very proud of what they achieved.”
