All-Round Success at Queen Mary’s School

This year’s excellent results highlight that over 1 in 4 entries were awarded the most outstanding Grades 8 – 9s. Queen Mary’s also celebrates significant value-added scores that measure achievement against predicted grades throughout each girl’s educational journey.

Ripon girl, Emilia Jaques is one of the pupils who has attended Queen Mary’s since the age of two. Today she has achieved Grade 9 in 9 subjects. Along with her academic studies, Emilia has had an exciting year as the female BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year with many opportunities to perform on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ with Alfie Boe and her beautiful voice has also been heard on a recording with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Within school Emilia has taken on the role of Head Chorister, has achieved Distinction in three instruments in her ABRSM Music Grade 8 examinations and, as a keen and committed sportswoman, she attended the ‘Girls Go Gold’ national sports conference.

Ximena Burrows, from Thirsk, has also attended Queen Mary’s for the last 14 years and achieved all 8-9s including 6 Grade 9s. As Deputy Head Girl and an Academic Scholar she has excelled in all areas. With a career in medicine as her goal, she has led the Charity Council and been a member of the Community Service Group. Having received two scholarships to attend St Mary’s School, Cambridge, she will remain a ‘Mary’s’ girl. The Mary Ward scholarship rewards spirituality, charity and community values and the Academic (STEM) scholarship promotes Science and Mathematics.

Many of this year’s leavers with strengths in Academic studies, Art, Music and Riding have secured scholarships to attend prestigious sixth forms. These also include Ampleforth, The Mount, Sidcot, Stowe and Uppingham schools. Congratulations also go to the Queen Mary’s old girls who having received amazing A Level results and are moving onto Russell Group universities including the University of Oxford.
