Friday June 7th saw over 100 people take part in a Drama Workshop day at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, arranged by the Drama Department with Trestle, the best mask-using theatre company in Britain.
Pupils and teachers from local schools, Holbrook Primary, South Lee Prep, Arbor Prep School and St Philomena’s participated in a day spent with Trestle’s Artistic Director and two other performers in the beautiful grounds of the Royal Hospital School in the sunshine. They had workshops exploring half-masks, Indian theatre techniques and Physical Theatre, and in doing so, worked towards an afternoon performance of the fairy tale , The Snow Queen, but set in India!
Mr Kerr, who also ran workshops throughout the day, was assisted by Royal Hospital School drama students Sophie Atkinson, Shannon Holdway, Tamsyn Howells, Sacha Robson and Rosy May Trewin Marshall, and said, “Trestle are simply the best around encouraging the 9 and 10 year olds to really show their creative talents and tell stories through drama and dance. The day finished with a culmination of all the work of the day in an impressive performance for the children’s parents and teachers – I think everyone came away with new ideas and techniques – the pupils and teachers”.
