Year 10 pupil, Henry Smith from Abbey Gate College has been accepted at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

This follows a successful audition performed on tuba and piano, both of which he will study at the Junior RNCM in September.

The Junior RNCM operates on Saturdays during term time, providing expert tuition and specialist training for children with exceptional musical ability, many of whom go on to study music at conservatoire or University.

Henry follows in the footsteps of his piano teacher, Toby Stanford an ex-pupil of Abbey Gate College and a member of the Junior RNCM. In September Toby is going to read Music at Oxford University.

Henry’s father, Stewart Smith, former Director of Music at Abbey Gate College said: “I am delighted with Henry’s success which is all down to his dedication to both instruments and to the excellent teaching he has received from Mr Bowen-Lewis (tuba) and Toby Stanford (piano)”.
