Wrekin College – GCSE results 2018

31 Aug 2018

Head teacher at Wrekin College Tim Firth said they were very proud of pupils as the school recorded its best ever number of top grades.

Last year pupils set a new record in terms of results, but this year pupils scored more A* or 8/9 grades than ever before to again break the school’s record.

“This comes despite the toughening up of grades, particularly at the top end where 9s are very hard to achieve,” added Mr Firth.

“This means that many of our pupils have secured top grades and that the brightest of them have been stretched and challenged very successfully here.”

The school also confirmed today that 91 per cent of students who received their A Level results last week had secured their choice of university, with 31 per cent going to The Russell Group which represents the 24 leading universities in the UK.

Mr Firth said Wrekin College had a wide diversity of pupils and what he was most delighted about was the increasing number of “personal bests” achieved across the school.

“Our Challenge Grade system is designed to stretch and challenge all according to his or her ability and what matters most, and what we celebrate most, is pupils achieving their personal bests. So many have done that today and embark upon their Sixth Form very well set up to achieve what they want there and beyond school.”
