Year 5 pupils from Winterfold School, Chaddesley Corbett spent an exciting day on Tuesday 5th June at MOD Kineton. Three teams from Winterfold had made it through to the Regional Final of the RAF’s Fly To The Line Challenge, in conjunction with RAF Cosford.

During the challenge at Kineton, pupils were tasked with designing and constructing a new glider. The Camo team won the most innovative design at regional level for their RAF Destroyer. A group from the School then went on to be interviewed by the British Forces Broadcasting Services about the Challenge.

On the morning of the Challenge, one young pupil, Archie Samuel was so looking forward to his visit, he telephoned Chris Evans at BBC Radio 2 to take part in the Kids’ Fanfare – ‘what are you doing for the first time today’. On Wednesday 6th June, Archie was back on the programme to let the nation know how he got on. Chris Evans said “how fantastic to go to a school where you can make gliders and fly them on your trip”. When asked to mark himself out of 10, Archie replied “100, to mark the RAF’s 100 years.”

David Aldred, Deputy Head (Pastoral) said “it was a very enjoyable and rewarding event for all of our pupils who took part at School and at the regional event”.
