Wellington School Pupil in Athletics Triumph

07 Dec 2017

A Wellington School pupil has triumphed in an England Athletics competition.

There was success for Jack Turner in Year 12 at his England debut at the English Schools home international indoor pentathlon that took place on Friday at the Emirates stadium in Glasgow.

Jack won silver at the home International in Glasgow at the weekend. This was Jack’s first international performance for the England team after winning the National championships back in September. He said “the day could not have gone better. My aim was always to get on the podium so I am very happy with my result. Training was going well, with my coach Kevin Skinner and I concentrating on the events that needed improvement, especially long jump after my knee injury at the beginning of the season. The end result was a massive 60 cm PB in long Jump which I was really pleased with. The indoor hurdles went without a hitch despite it being 60m instead of the 100m outdoor distance that I am used to and I achieved the second fastest time of the day. The whole day was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed my England team debut. My coach and my parents were there providing their support, for which I am always so very grateful. I will now have a short rest and straight into winter training and work on my shot put.”

As well as his individual performance winning him silver, his U17 boys England team also won silver. Along with the impressive P.B in long jump with a distance of 6.76m Jack gained 3 more P.B’s in 60m hurdles with a time of 8.29 sec, 200m 23.13 sec and 800m 2min 13. An overall points score of 3589.

Well done Jack! Superb performance.
