Wellington School Pioneers Radical Music Offering

14 Aug 2019

Wellington School’s reputation for excellence in the Performing Arts is widely-acknowledged and exciting creative developments planned for the immediate future further underline why this is a trailblazing place for young people to develop their talents.

“We are delighted to be revolutionising the way we provide music to our pupils across the whole School, which is unique in this area,” commented Headmaster Henry Price.

A new integrated 3-18 music department will be launched in September 2019. Working across both Prep and Senior schools, Wellington Music will be offering a nurturing musical experience from Nursery to Sixth Form, with all pupils benefitting from the highest quality teaching, mentoring, instrumental and vocal coaching from the same outstanding team of music practitioners.

Director of Wellington Music, Andrew Trewhella comments “ we can’t wait to start this exciting new chapter for music at the School. Given the wonderful level of support the Arts are receiving here, Wellington’s creative future looks bright indeed!”

“Our pupils demonstrate significant creative talent and the broadest range of skills within the expressive arts, and the School is also widening the range of creative scholarships it offers. In addition to the existing Music, Drama and Art scholarships, there will now also be a Performing Arts award, which incorporates dance into the offering – the perfect creative environment for the talented child.

The music department at Wellington has supported and nurtured a range of talented musicians, including Year 6 pupil Genevieve Altoft who has just played with the Young National Schools Symphony Orchestra at The Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The concert was a glorious culmination to a hectic musical training week with them at Malvern College.

“We are delighted to be able to help to inspire and support talented pupils such as Genevieve to achieve significant personal success,” concluded Andrew Trewhella.
