Trinity School prepares to welcome the French Rugby Team
14 Sep 2015
Excitement is mounting at Trinity School in Croydon as it prepares to say ‘bienvenue’ to the French Rugby Squad who arrive on Sunday September 13 2015. As a school which takes its Rugby seriously, Trinity is delighted to be the Team Base for France during Rugby World Cup 2015. The School was last year selected by the French national Rugby team as their Team Base and will offer the squad use of its 1st XV pitch, sports hall, pool, fitness suite, brand new strength and conditioning suite, and recently opened sports pavilion, complete with conference space and medical room. As part of the build up to the arrival of France, on September 8 Trinity hosted the prestigious Webb Ellis Cup as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour of the UK and Ireland together with former England player and coach, Sir Clive Woodward.
It’s not just the Trinity Rugby boys who can’t wait to welcome the Rugby World Cup 2011 finalists. The whole school also expects to benefit from being part of Rugby World Cup 2015. Students from the French Department have prepared cards and a video to welcome Philippe Saint-André. Even the musicians are involved as the Trinity Boys Choir is one of only 20 choirs in the UK chosen to sing at France’s Welcome Ceremony. The ceremony will be held in The Painted Hall in the Old Royal Navy College, Greenwich, on September 14.
Croydon and the local community are also preparing to celebrate Rugby World Cup 2015 with events planned in the town centre. Croydon Business Improvement District (BID) has arranged for a French Market to set up stalls in North End from September 24-27th with Surrey Rugby and Croydon BID putting on additional themed activities and a surprise or two in conjunction with Trinity School.
Director of Rugby, Aaron Liffchak commented: “Rugby is at the heart of Trinity’s sports scene and we can’t wait to welcome France. It will be exceptionally inspiring for our players to cohabit with one of the top teams in the world.”
Headmaster Mark Bishop said: “It is hugely exciting to have the French team come to Trinity, not just for our sportsmen and women but for the whole school, with many cross-curricular benefits expected. We are also pleased to be working with Croydon BID and Surrey Rugby to bring some of the excitement of hosting France to Croydon’s wider community during the last weekend in September.”
