Students Celebrate GCSE Success – Ellesmere College

02 Oct 2024

Ellesmere College students are celebrating their excellent GCSE successes. The results published today saw an 89% pass rate, well above the UK pass rate of 67%, with 28% of grades in the top 9-7 range (A*/A). There were some particularly notable performances, as listed below, with many in the top band level of 9’s and 8’s (equivalent to A*/A).

Natt (Phuket) swept the board having achieved a total of ten level 9’s in all subjects and she completed A level Mathematics with an A* – an impressive performance! Natt completed three of her GCSE’s early, gaining a 9 in Maths in Year 9 and two more 9’s in Further Maths and Chemistry, in Year 10, leaving room in her timetable for her to pursue A level Maths in Year 11.

Bella (Ellesmere, Shropshire) [Pictured] achieved seven level 9’s and two level 8’s.

Marco (Tai Po) gained seven 9’s including Further Maths, three level 8’s and a 7.

Theo (Baddiley, Cheshire) combined a busy rugby schedule with his GCSE studies. He gained a level 9, three 8’s, one 7, three 6’s and a 5. Theo has been playing in the U18’s as part of Sale Shark Rugby academy and captained the Sale squad at the recent tournament at Marlborough and gaining ‘Player of the Season’ at Chester Rugby Club.

This follows on from last week’s excellent A level results and destinations, which saw students celebrating a 96% pass rate at A level, with some outstanding individual performances and students securing places at top universities across the UK and overseas.

Mrs Pritt-Roberts, Acting Head, said:

It is a pleasure to see how well pupils have achieved. These GCSE results are a testament to their exceptional attitude, unwavering commitment, and remarkable perseverance throughout the academic year. Our pupils have demonstrated not only their academic capabilities but also their determination and resilience in overcoming challenges along the way. This success reflects the dedication and hard work of the students, parents and the staff, who have supported them every step of the way. They are now very well prepared to embark on their Sixth Form programme with us and we look forward to seeing them in September.
