Staines Prep Raised the Roof at Carols by Candlelight Service

05 Dec 2014

St. Peter’s Church, Staines, was packed to the rafters and full of Christmas spirit last night as Staines Prep pupils, parents, governors and staff joined the local community in celebrating the beginning of the festive season at the beautiful Carols by Candlelight service.

Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 proudly took their places at the annual service, held in the picturesque riverside church, to sing a selection of well-loved, traditional Christmas carols.  Seasonal readings were given by Reverend Burley and the school’s headmistress Ms Samantha Sawyer who addressed the joyful congregation.

Year 6 pupil Matthew Turley said: “The evening was great fun as I got to sing with the whole school.  My favorite carol was Away in a Manger as it always reminds me of having a nice time at Christmas.”

Ms Sawyer said: “This has been a cherished date in the school’s calendar for the past twelve years.  It is a wonderful opportunity for the children to showcase their talent and beautiful voices but is also a time to give thanks, reflect and remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas.”
