Pre-Prep Pupils Embrace Remote Learning

Remote Learning at King’s Hawford.

Remote learning has quickly become a way of life for pupils across the King’s Foundation as teachers, parents and pupils have adapted to learning away from the traditional classroom. At King’s Hawford the focus has been on ensuring a continuity of education for all pupils. 

Thanks to technology we have been able to provide remote online lessons, virtual assemblies and virtual weekly challenges. The King’s Hawford teaching and support staff have worked hard to ensure that the remote learning on offer is the best possible. Teachers have utilised several online learning platforms including Class Dojo and Showbie, both of which have ensured that we are able to deliver safe, interactive and structured remote learning.

Class Dojo website and app, is used in our Pre-Prep (Reception through to year 2) and has been well received by pupils, parents, and staff.  It connects primary school teachers, students, and families, through communication features, such as a feed for photos and videos from the school day, and messaging. Lessons are uploaded the day before with videos, pictures, documents, PowerPoints, and website links. Parents, then send work back via the pupil portfolio or by sending it by message or email. Our teachers then can respond to each piece of work, providing guidance and rewards via Class Dojo points.

Showbie has proved to be an excellent, intuitive platform for Junior School pupils allowing video content, easy scanning, live discussions, and efficient marking.  Engagement levels have been very high and progression and feedback from pupils have been positive.

Remote Learning: Pre-Prep

We have been impressed by the versatility, resilience and tenacity shown by all of our pupils across the age groups. Our youngest pupils in particular have shown an impressive work ethic, relishing the new ways of learning.

Reception:

The remote learning curriculum for our Reception pupils has built on the skills that were taught during the first two terms of the school year and have focused on phonics, maths, art and music. The children have also enjoyed exciting learning topics such as ‘mini-beasts’.

Year 1:

Learning has continued apace in Year 1 with pupils enjoying English, maths and science lessons as well as focusing on special topics and themes which have included ‘spring time’ and the ‘Great Fire of London’.

Year 2:

Most recently our Year 2 pupils have been learning to write instructions and tell the time. They have found many creative ways to do this at home! Pupils have also been putting their creative talents to use producing artwork inspired by Kandinsky and crafting famous London landmarks including Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the London Eye.
