Outstanding (i)GCSE results at Haileybury
17 Aug 2021
Fifths pupils received an outstanding set of (i)GCSE results, as a third of all grades were awarded at 9, 60% of all grades were awarded at 9/8/A* and 84% of all grades were awarded at 7 – 9 or equivalent. Alongside this, twelve Haileybury pupils received straight 9/A* grades; an incredible achievement.
Pupils who received straight 9/A* grades are as follows: Lena, Derin, Tabitha, Patrick, Declan, Hilary, Arhyam, Charlotte, Jack, Ida, Sakura and Wendy.
When asked how it felt to receive straight 9/A* grades, Fifths pupil Patrick said: “I’m really happy with my grades particularly as I wasn’t expecting to achieve the results I did and I am going to spend today with my friends to celebrate.” Another pupil Declan, mentioned that he will be celebrating with a trip to a waterpark: “To celebrate, we are going to a waterpark for the day and are going out for a celebratory dinner tonight. I’m feeling very relieved to have been awarded straight 9s, I’m so glad that my hard work has paid off.”
Another pupil who was awarded straight 9/A*s was Fifths pupil Lena. Hoping to go into medicine in the future, Lena will be taking Biology and Chemistry at higher level for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IDBP) in September. Lena said: “I feel really proud of myself for achieving such great results since I had been working really hard and finally have proof that all my work paid off.”
Studying for exams and assessments can be challenging, but with the support from his teachers, Arhyam was able to channel his nerves into revising and was ultimately able to achieve an exceptional run of straight 9/A* grades also. He said: “My teachers were very supportive and reassuring. At times I would doubt myself but their reassurance gave me confidence.” Arhyam will be taking Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry for his A levels in September.
When asked how she prepared for her (i)GCSEs Charlotte said: “In order to revise I looked at checklists which my teachers gave to me, especially in the sciences, as these defined what exactly can come up in the exams.” Fifths pupil Tabitha also commented: “For me, the best method was definitely the use of online flashcards. My advice is to start writing concise flashcards as early as possible.”
The past year has been difficult for many, yet our pupils have continued to strive towards their goals and with their hard work and the support of their teachers and Haileybury staff, they have achieved an excellent set of results to be proud of.
The Master, Martin Collier commented: “These exceptional results stand as testament to the outstanding efforts of the 2021 (i)GCSE cohort of pupils. They showed extraordinary resilience in the face of considerable challenges and they worked hard, especially during the period of the assessments. We are very proud indeed of the pupils and we congratulate them on achieving a wonderful set of examination results.”
We would like to congratulate all of those who receive their (i)GCSE results today.
