Oakhyrst Grange – ISA London South Cross Country Event

08 Feb 2018

On January 22nd our U9 boys and girls and U11 boys and girls cross country team went to Frewen College for the ISA regionals. The top ten from each race would then go through to compete at the Nationals in March.  It was a beautiful day and the sun was shining. Our first race was the U9 girls. The girls got a fantastic start with Gracie taking the lead. As the race came to an end Gracie got an amazing 1st, Lea came 13th, Milli came 24th and Seanna came 26th. They all ran a fantastic race. Next were the U9 boys. All of them tried so hard. Samuel came 6th, Henry only just missed out with an exciting battle at the finishing line and came 11th, Isaac came 14th, Charlie came 16th with Thomas coming 17th. This course was very undulating and bumpy.

The U11 girls got a good fast start.  They had to battle against a girl with the longest legs ever who came first!  Estee and Aspen qualified for the Nationals, coming 3rd and 5th.   Lily and Erin just missed out coming 15th and 16th.  Unfortunately Tamsin was unable to finish after getting an injury.  Finally, the U11 boys went to the start line.  I think all of us were really nervous. Well I certainly was!  The race got off to a tight and compact start with everyone pushing their way to the front.  The course was very long and the field was massive.  I tried really hard to get to the front but stayed in 5th position most of the way round.  Luckily I clawed my way to 3rd place by the finishing line.  Declan came 17th, Harry came 22nd, Tom 38th and Seb came 42nd.  It was a really tough race and we were all gasping for air by the end.

I would like to thank Mrs Pumphrey and Miss Dance for letting us take part and to the parents for taking us and supporting us on the day.
