Lorimer Tennis Court: Grand Opening Celebration at West Buckland School
West Buckland School celebrated the opening of their new tennis court: The Lorimer Courts.
Yesterday, West Buckland School celebrated the grand opening of their new tennis courts, thanks to the generous donations from the Lorimer family and the WBS Foundation.
West Buckland School is incredibly excited about using this new facility and watch their tennis programme continue to flourish!
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Eric Lorimer played an exhibition match against WBS students. Eric has been a pupil from nursery through to 2023 and is currently ranked number 1 in U14 tennis in Europe!
His biggest win of 2024 was at the singles clay court SuperCat tournament (Maia Jovem) in Porto, Portugal, where he triumphed over Europe’s top 120 players, winning six matches in six days under clear skies and high temperatures. His second-best win was in Paris in February at a hard-court Category 1 event, where he won six matches in six days, with over 500 spectators watching the finals. Another notable victory was at a Category 1 clay court tournament in Piestany, Slovakia, where he defeated British rival Niall Pickerd-Barua in three sets.
In doubles, Eric claimed three major titles in 2024: the SuperCat event in Stockholm, a Category 1 event in Bolton, and a Category 1 event in Bucharest, partnering with Patrick Breen and Scott Watson.
Eric plans to compete in ITF tournaments in preparation for next year, where he will compete against under-18 boys and join the National Academy in Loughborough in September. West Buckland School would like to wish him the best of luck with his tennis career and can’t wait to welcome him back for another game of tennis soon!
