Former Stonyhurst pupil treading the boards with the Royal Shakespeare Company
07 Mar 2013
A former Stonyhurst College pupil made his debut this week with the Royal Shakespeare Company at Stratford-Upon-Avon. Andrew Hanratty, who left the Ribble Valley school after his A levels in 2007, is currently appearing in ‘The Winter’s Tale’, directed by Lucy Bailey, at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, prior to a nationwide tour. Stonyhurst’s Head of Drama, Johanna Egar, took her Theatre Studies students to watch the performance and to meet Andrew after the performance.
“We were fortunate to see him displaying the full range of his considerable talent, to a packed and delighted theatre” said Johanna, who taught Andrew Theatre Studies at Stonyhurst. “He played several roles, including Florizel, Cleomenes and Dion, performing intricate dance and fight scenes with ease, alongside such luminaries as Tara Fitzgerald and Jo Stone-Fewings. We are incredibly proud of him and felt privileged to watch him in such an exciting production.”
Andrew was a member of the National Youth Theatre, and worked with the producer of the West End smash hit ‘Sister Act’ before completing a two-year acting course at Drama Studio London, graduating in 2011. He has performed with a host of prolific names in the theatre world since then, including Iain Glen, Charlotte Emmerson, Michael Pennington and Penny Downie.
